Obama quote

"They did not choose more of the same in November ... They did not send us here to turn back to the same tried and failed approaches that were rejected because we saw the results. They sent us here to make change with the expectation that we would act."

Oh thank god. Finally someone understands. So... we are not going to use the same failed approaches of the previous administration (and the administration before that.) I assume this means:
  • the government will no longer be spending money it does not have
  • the government will not be bailing out failed businesses or embracing socialist policies
  • the executive branch will no longer push religion and will finally understand separation of church and state -- by first abolishing "faith based initiatives."
  • the government will not throw the entire economy upside down by demolishing one sector ("housing" for example) by attempting to build that sector artificially "for the good of the common man."
I can only assume, from this quote, that Obama has decided to finally and fully embrace capitalism.

Nope, he's gonna try some new approaches which are doomed to failure.

(The word verification for this message was 'galte'. How did they know?!?)

I fully expect the new approaches to be old approaches. You can call it a "new deal" -- but that doesn't make it new.

The verification was "galte"? Who is that?

I still hold the opinion that no one I would want as president would ever run for president.

Hehehehe. All this brought to you by the folks that blame the Feb. 17 2009 DTV transition deadline as a failure of GWB. Did y'all read the comments after the passage of the delay?? I guess five years' notice isn't enough for some people ... and that was a delay, as well.

Anyway, this whole mess will end in tears.... I just know it.

BTW, my verification was hedhophi... so am I to take that backwards as 'hi hop hed?'

I've almost bursted my spleen holding back comment on the DTV transition. Possibly the most pointless, stupid thing a government could do. "Ohh. Crisis. Wall Street is crashing. Pending economic collapse. Crap! Screw that. Someone in Deluth won't get to watch CSI."

The idea that TV has moved from "nice thing to have" to "public need" is so foreign to me that I almost cannot wrap my wine soggied brain around it.

It is a public need why? Because someone needs a public warning about a coming tornado? Isn't that what those piece of shit tornado sirens are for... which, by the way, I HAVE NEVER EVER HEARD in a storm even though I have twice lived within 1000ft of them. Don't EVEN get me started on tornado sirens. Oh but not to worry, the reverse 911 system can notify 60K people in an hour. You can register 2 numbers. DO THE FRIGGIN MATH. In a town of 100K with everyone having 2 numbers registered, you have almost 2 hours to notify people their home will be destroyed in 5 minutes. Good luck with that one, McGyver.

And what about the poor bastards that bought the rights to use the old TV bands in their cell towers? Do we now have to pay them a snow shovel full of jack to say "I'm sorry" are are they just screwed?

Oh Og, you opened a can of worms. And not live worms -- stinky rotten dead worms in a steaming pile of cat poo.

my sincere apologies. I said 2 hours. It's > 3. I was on a roll.

Hmmmm.... I keep waiting for a nice rant to emerge from the stinking poo worms, but as yet, nothing has emerged.

I felt like I sort of rambled it out of my system, thanks to you.

Happy to oblige.

If only there was real productive change...sigh.

Change... I'll believe it when I see it... There are too many interests with too much lobby power to let any real change happen...

Close Guantanamo? just a PR move, the guys they really care about will (or already have) be moved to Bagram where they can get really medieval on their ass without anyone noticing much...

As for the DTV fiasco, get real... TV really is an essential service, otherwise how will they control the masses??? without TV people might actually have some time to think, or listen to PBS news, or something equally heinous... ;-> or maybe it would cause a small baby boom...

um, yeah that.

I actually thought the idea that "change" is a slogan is freakishly funny.

"Different" does not denote "better" (begging the question of would things actually be different in the first place.)

Its as if he stood up with a photo of Bush II and said "I'm not this guy," and the crowd cheered. Well, I'm not that guy either. (Waiting for applause.)
